چکیده

In the Minimum Label Spanning Tree problem, the input consists of an edge-colored undirected graph, and the goal is to find a spanning tree with the minimum number of different colors. We investigate the special case where every color appears at most r times in the input graph. This special case is polynomially solvable for r = 2, and NP-complete and APX-complete for any fixed r ≥ 3. We analyze local search algorithms that are allowed to switch up to k of the colors used in a feasible solution. We show that for k = 2 any local optimum yields an (r + 1)/2approximation of the global optimum, and that this bound is tight. For every k ≥ 3, there exist instances for which some local optima are a factor of r/2 away from the global optimum.

A Metaheuristic Algorithm for the Minimum Routing Cost Spanning Tree Problem

The routing cost of a spanning tree in a weighted and connected graph is defined as the total length of paths between all pairs of vertices. The objective of the minimum routing cost spanning tree problem is to find a spanning tree such that its routing cost is minimum. This is an NP-Hard problem that we present a GRASP with path-relinking metaheuristic algorithm for it. GRASP is a multi-start ...

Variable neighborhood search for the cost constrained minimum label spanning tree and label constrained minimum spanning tree problems

Given an undirected graph whose edges are labeled or colored, edge weights indicating the cost of an edge, and a positive budget B, the goal of the cost constrained minimum label spanning tree (CCMLST) problem is to find a spanning tree that uses the minimum number of labels while ensuring its cost does not exceed B. The label constrained minimum spanning tree (LCMST) problem is closely related...

A mixed integer linear formulation for the minimum label spanning tree problem

In this paper we deal with the minimum label spanning tree problem. This is a relevant problem with applications such as telecommunication networks or electric networks, where each edge is assigned with a label (such as a color) and it is intended to determine a spanning tree with the minimum number of different labels. We introduce some mixed integer formulations for this problem and prove tha...

Neighborhood Search for the Bounded Diameter Minimum Spaning Tree

Many optimization problems including the network design problem of finding the bounded diameter minimum spanning tree are computationally intractable. Therefore, a practical approach for solving such problems is to employ heuristic algorithms that can find solution close to the optimal one within a reasonable amount of time. Neighborhood search algorithms are a wide class of algorithms where at...

(Meta-)Heuristic Separation of Jump Cuts in a Branch&Cut Approach for the Bounded Diameter Minimum Spanning Tree Problem

The bounded diameter minimum spanning tree problem is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem arising, for example, in network design when quality of service is of concern. We solve a strong integer linear programming formulation based on so-called jump inequalities by a Branch&Cut algorithm. As the separation subproblem of identifying currently violated jump inequalities is difficult, we...
